Walter Cronkite was part of a generation of TV newsmen we could count on and trust. They had integrity and courage. His passing marks the end of that era and reminds us that we no longer have a Murrow, a Stone, or a Cronkite to turn to.
We are sadly on our own during a time in history when we most need people of Cronkite's caliber. Just knowing he was alive gave me a sense of comfort. How many people can claim such a reach and such an affect on others? Cronkite was the "most trusted name in news" before it was a slogan. He was "fair and balanced" before it was a marketing tool. He will be missed.
And that's the way it is...
