The National Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC was attacked today by a shooter:
The security guard, who was identified by police as 39-year-old Stephen Tyrone Johns of Temple Hills, Md., and the gunman were both taken to George Washington University Hospital.
Johns died at the hospital, authorities said later, and the gunman was reported to be in critical condition. A third person sustained minor injuries in the incident, according to police.
Museum officials said in a statement that Johns had worked at the museum for six years. The museum said it would be closed tomorrow, and lower its flags to half-staff, to honor Johns's memory. "There are no words to express our grief," the statement said."
I think we can expect more from the crazies sadly. The Department of Homeland Security issued a warning about the rise in violence by white-power and hate groups. But the usual suspects, those most publicly championing hate in all forms, thought the report was a political stunt. I am sure the right-wing will trot out the meme that associating their hate-speech with acts of violence is yet another political stunt. But those of us who have abstained from the Kool- Aid know better. I am certain that if the shooter were Muslim, the Malkinites would take to the street to demand a round-up of all Muslims. Instead, Malkin and the Malkinites jump to exclaim that the shooter was not "left or right, just just loony."
Apparently she does not get that white-power groups are in fact right-wing in the extreme. They are usually Christian as well. Go figure.
Also, apparently the shooter, James W. von Brunn, has a Web site where you can learn all about his right-wing ideology. Seems like he and Timothy McVeigh would have hit it off if the latter had not already been executed for domestic terrorism and mass murder.
My condolences go out to Stephen Tyrone Johns' family. He was a brave man and his courage will be remembered.
